The brains of individuals with dyslexia aren’t defective, they’re simply different.
These wiring differences mean that dyslexic individuals have special strengths in processing certain kinds of information. Yet, we overwhelmingly hear the negative narrative of what dyslexics can’t do, and what they find difficult. Isn’t it time to change the conversation to create a more empowering model of brain-diversity?
In this talk, we explore the questions:
What are the unique gifts of dyslexia? How does the dyslexic brain differ from a neurotypical brain?
How does our collective view of brain-diversity repress these special gifts from being expressed in the world?
Are we as a world cut off from the immense benefits the dyslexic brain is meant to contribute to humanity?
